Our customers often ask whether our structures need any additional protection; in the following post we will try to explain this topic.
Do you need to protect homes and wooden structures?
Wood is a natural material that evokes warmth, coziness, and safety. More and more it serves as a building material for holiday cabins and timber-framed homes. A wooden house built with the right technique can enchant with its beauty for many years.
Wood brings beauty and natural nobility to the surroundings. And it forms a fantastic match with the landscape. You can read more on this topic in the post: Advantages of a wooden house.
At Drewnolandia all structures are built from chamber-dried wood.
Learn more about this technology in the post: What is chamber drying?
Until recently, the most popular wood-drying technique was seasoning. Seasoned wood requires protections against pests and fungi, in the form of impregnants and other chemical agents.
Chamber-drying technology eliminates all pests and fungi from the wood’s interior.
Are chamber-dried wood products then required to be protected in addition?
Wood that has no contact with the elements does not require additional protective measures. Therefore, the wooden frames of Canadian-style houses do not require impregnation.
In Drewnolandia, for building Canadian-style houses we use chamber-dried and four-side planed wood, which is a natural and healthy material with very high durability. There is no need to apply any chemical protections.
For constructions such as garden gazebos, woodsheds, carports, holiday cabins, where wood is exposed to weather conditions as well as dust and dirt, we recommend impregnation – colorless or in a shade close to natural, or colored, depending on preferences and surroundings. This protection guards against moisture and dirt.
During the execution of the project, our specialists will advise the right treatment – best matched to the needs and requirements of the specific construction and will inform you how to apply it.
